Twinleaf Town, a small grassy town that has light chilly breezes passing through. It was still autumn, nearing winter though. It was said that even underneath mountain of snows, the grass still stands tall. At a certain two story house was a certain female who recently became popularly known all around of Sinnoh as the Heroine who took down Team Galactic. Her name was; Tsugabara Hikari.

She stood in the mirror looking at the dress the Champion of Sinnoh had given her. It was midnight color with pink vine patterns at the rim. There was also an over cloth in a pale yellow see through color. She wasn’t normally the type to go for fancy ball dresses such as this, but it was a gift. She had enough manners to not disrespect something that was given to her. What bothered her the most was the eye mask, she had trouble tying the strings underneath her hair.

Knock Knock

Oh… that’s right.<

The young female sighed out. She wasn’t the only one in Twinleaf Town that was headed off to this ball. Her childhood friend who went by the name Atome Jun, was invited as well. Of course she didn’t know this until last night when he called up to remind her of the celebrating event. He mentioned something about picking her up, didn’t think he was serious though. He always had a habit of leaving her, never waiting for her to catch up. She wonders why would today be any different.

She made her way down the stairs and towards the front door. It took longer than intended since she kept tripping over her dress. By the time she opened the door, there wasn’t anyone out there waiting. Hikari sighed out, not sure why she even bothered to open the door. She really did not want to go to this.

When she started to close the door and turn around, she heard rapid footsteps getting close until the door was stopped. The bluette turned back to see who was there. The next thing she was aware of was a flash of red being dangerously close to her face and the door swinging wide open. “Hikari!”

“AA! OHMY-- NO!” She twirled around in attempt to get away from the red blur. She tripped though and was now falling backwards. Or, she would have if it not been for the pair of arms she felt now holding her back. It didn’t bring her back up yet, so the female thought this was a good time as any to open her eyes and see clearly who had just given her a heart attack.

Red, black eyes, and some more red. There was even this yellow pincher near the mouth. “Whoa! You almost had a bad fall.”

She knows who’s voice that is, but she couldn’t understand what the hell the voice was wearing. “Uh.. Jun?”

“Yeah?” A chipper reply came as the savior brought the ball of clothe back to her feets.

>Of course…”< Typical of him to not catch on. Or act as if everything was normal. “What.. Are you wearing?”

“Oh!” the male named Jun pulled off his mask, revealing pinching lopsided blond hair. “I’m Ariaman!”

The full body skin tight costume now looked a lot clearer. “As in Ariados?” Hikari asked, though already knowing the answer.

“Yep! You remember right?” Hikari wasn’t exactly sure what he was referring to. She knew the blond wouldn’t catch her confusion, and he would change the subject anyways the next second. “From those books I used to read back in grade school?”

That was odd, but now she understood what he meant. “Oh, yes. That super hero of some sort with… Ariados-like powers.”

Jun nodded and walked towards the open kitchen. “You look nice by the way.” Like usual, he grabbed a juice box from the fridge and began drinking it.

Hikari couldn’t stop staring, was he honestly going to the party looking like that? “Well… that’s… much more than I can say for you.” She never did shy away in the bush.

“Huh? What’s wrong with my costume?” Jun walked back over to his childhood friend, assuming they would head off now.

He dark bluette didn’t quite know how to phase sentence. “Well… this is a ball where you need a mask…” She couldn’t remember what that word was, she knew there was a certain name to parties like these.

Jun laughed and patted her on the back, placing his juice down. “Ahaha! Nah, it’s a costume party, hence the wear a mask rule.” He grabbed the eye mask from her and motioned her to turn around.

The female did so and pulled up her hair so that it wouldn’t get in the blond’s way. “Don’t you think the costume is a bit much though? A tux would be more safer.”

The blond made several knots, making sure the mask wouldn’t fall off. “Tux are annoying though. Besides, who doesn’t like Ariaman?”

Hikari grabbed her dress and flicked it upwards. Showing off that she didn’t enjoy wearing this, but she still did. Jun chuckled at the action and gently grabbed her hair to place it back down. He paused when he noticed her bare neck. When several seconds passed, Hikari became a little concern. “Jun?”

“Huh?” The blond shook his head, letting her hair fall down. She always wore a scarf or choker, he wasn’t used to of seeing her neck bare like that. For some reason his heart was beating faster than just a minute ago. “S-sorry… hey!” He twirled around her, getting in the front. “Why don’t you wear your hair up?”

Hikari fluffed her hair, making sure it fell just right. “I never liked wearing my hair up.”

Jun hummed, trying to find a way to convince her otherwise. “I think it would be a nice change. Just for the tonight?”

The female hummed back at him in a mocking tone. “I’ll tie my hair if you change your clothes.”

The blond laughed in the same mocking tone. “Yeah yeah~ we’re gonna be late, let’s go!”

Hikari raised an eyebrow. “I don’t get a penalty?”

A light hearted chuckle came in reply. “Not when you look like that.”

“Oh? Care to elaborate?” Hikari picked up her dress, and began to follow after the blond wearing tights.

She saw her childhood friend shrug. There was something so odd about him, he was calm and avoided looking at her. When he did he almost looked normal, in a standstill kind of way. The way he acted with strangers he was uncomfortable with. “You can’t give princesses penalties.”

“Princess?”

Jun nodded, closing the door behind them and made his way towards the edge of Twinleaf. “Yeah, that’s what your costume is right?”

“Oh…” She looked down at her ball gown. She suppose one could call this a princess dress. Hikari watched her childhood walk a couple steps in front of him. He never cared about what others thought, and he was always himself even with people he had just met. Always open, never shy. Which is too much someone could say for her. She was always a closed book, rarely allowed herself to express emotions. It always felt out of place for her to even try. She sighed again, knowing Jun’s house wasn’t that far from here. “Are you sure you don’t want to change?”

“Do you want me too?” He turned around, walking backwards with his arms holding his resting head.

“If you’re fine with it, then I will be too. I just think you have the wrong idea to what the party is.” Jun didn’t bother to reply to that. He was pretty confident with what he heard over the phone. “I don’t understand how you got invited to this party.”

This made Jun scoff a bit. “Yeah yeah~ I hear ya.” Hikari shook her head slightly, knowing the blond took that the wrong way. She decided to see how that would effect their night and kept quiet about what she really meant.

It didn’t take very long for the duo to reach the edge of Twinleaf where the party was held. Hikari recalled what the Champion of Sinnoh reasoning for hosting the ball here was; to honor where great trainers are born at. The closer they neared to the crowd, the more disappointing the blonde Champion didn’t seem like such a bad thing.

Shirona was looking forward to the female’s presence at the ball, but she was never the one to enjoy large crowds. She was already aware of the Gym Leaders being invited, but there was clearly more than eight people up ahead. Jun started to place on his mask, covering his face and stuffing his hair inside the skin tight cloth. Hikari was slightly grateful for this.

The moment the two entered the party zone, the night became interesting. Everyone present was all in formal wear. Ball gown dresses, tuxedos, dressy blouses and collar sleeves. The bluette just knew her childhood friend was blushing underneath that mask. “Okay… so maybe I was wrong…”

There was a couple Gym Leaders who noticed the young teen in a superhero costume. Most of them pretended not to, while a very few laughed quietly to themselves. “Oh my Heartan, I am so under dressed.”

The bluette snickered and leaned her head towards him. “I don’t think under is the correct word. Lower than hell might be closer though.” She smiled a bit with innocence beaming.

Any other situation, he would have glared. However this current one made him feel high levels of awkwardness he didn’t know he could reach. Jun notices a table with a white table cloth dragging on the ground. On the table was all sorts of snacks and appetizers for the guest to eat. It would have to do.

With his quick speed, the cosplaying Airaman dived under the table, hiding his inappropriate costume along with his embarrassment. He was so sure the man said costume party, not Masquerade Ball. Hikari took a moment to realize where her friend had dashed off too and made her way towards the table. She found it difficult to bend down and remained standing. “Um, Jun?”

“Yeah?”

She mentally laughed at how casual he sounded. As if this was totally normal. “What are you doing?”

“I’ll give you two guesses.”

Hikari looked around, making sure no one was around to see her talking to the food. “You’re hiding?”

“Bingo!”

She rolled her eyes, and pulled some of her hair behind her ear. “Well, come out.” She already figured he would and picked up a plate.

“Ahaha--No.”

The bluette had placed all kinds of snacks on the plate, she grabbed another once the first was filled. “Have it your way then.”

She heard him sigh out, even though she couldn’t see him she knew his expression fell deeper when she walked to the other end of the table. She only did so to grab some drinks. Once she had the food and refreshments, she placed them on the floor. Sliding the plates of food under the table, she heard the blond chuckle out. “Thanks.”

That didn’t stop her plans though, she --with the best of her abilities-- went down on her knees and crawled under the table. Holding the drinks in both hands as she did so, getting her elbows a bit scraped in the process. Jun quietly yelp and took the drinks from her before she dropped them. “Hey! What you are doing?”

Once she made sure her dress was completely inside, she gave her childhood friend who’s mask was off now, a small smile. “I’ll give you two guesses.”

“Ahahah! No way! I said we’ll circle around them then jump!” Ignoring the guest on the other side of the white cloth, the two childhood friends laughed. They’ve been like this for the past twenty minutes. Hikari couldn’t remember the last time she had laughed this much, or saw her blond friend smile this widely before.

She shook her head and swallowed the rest of her drink. “No, I swore you said run circles around them and then lump!”

Jun snickered and banged his fist against his knee. “Since when has lumping ever be used as a method for catching Pokémons!” He laughed out, throwing his head back. Which ended with his skull making contact with the table top.

Their laughter automatically halted, Hikari covered her mouth and looked up at the wood. Jun placed one hand on his head and waited for something to happen. That something really did as the Champion of Sinnoh, Shirona, lifted the white cloth. This wasn’t the first time Jun had kicked the table or moved it violently enough to make things spill. Each time, the blonde busty woman had been nearby or gotten drinks spilt on her.

The Champion gave the blond an irritated look, Hikari had darted her eyes away pretending she could not be seen. “Last time that happens, I swear.” Jun chuckled nervously, watching Shirona sigh out and leave the two. Once the white cloth hid them from the outsiders, the two young teenlings burst into another fit of laughter. “Did you see her face?”

Hikari giggled even more, hearing the blond crack up over the smallest things made her want to challenge him in a battle of laughter volume. When they both started to calm down more, Jun picks up one of the cupcakes still left. “What are you still doing here anyways? You should be out there having fun!”

The bluette picked up her drink and decided to finish it after replying. “I only came to this party because I knew you were.”

“Huh? Really?” Jun recalled her comment earlier, thinking she wasn’t very fond of the idea of him being here. “But you were kind of annoyed before. Not sure how I was invited and all that.”

Hikari chucked and set down her empty cup. “That wasn’t a sarcastic comment, I was really wondering about that.”

“Oh wow,” Jun chuckled, still feeling the sugar rush in his blood system. “I’m a real idiot aren’t I?”

She figured it would be wiser not to answer that. “Well, are you going to tell me now?”

“Oh right!” the blond picked up another cupcake to snack on. “Well my dad’s a Frontier Brain, so he invites me along as his plus one thing.” He made a mental note to yell at his father later for telling him the wrong theme of the party.

The female just stared at him. Now that she thought about it, she never really did ever see his father. Nor asked about him. “How… did I go ten years without ever knowing that?”

Jun winked at her, munching on the cleffa icing cupcake. “You never asked~”

“Ha. Hah. But in all my time knowing you, you never mentioned anything about your father.” Hikari was not very curious. Though it did make sense in a way, Jun was knowledgeable and very intelligent despite how he acts and his wild schemes. He always knew what strategy to use, or makes one up on the spot. He and Koki often had their bickerments about all kinds of Pokémon.

While Koki did win his fair share of debates, Jun was always a couple points ahead. “Really? Huh…” Jun scratched his head, then laughed gently. “Well, falling off of trees tends to effect the brain.”

Hikari giggled, then went on her knees. “Well maybe this will help.” She leaned towards him, pecking his cheek and went back to her little corner. Jun was slightly taken back, she had always done that when they were younger. Each time he would just laugh since her hair tickled his neck. So why did this time feel weird? Jun shook his head, he already knew the answer. He just couldn’t figure out how to voice it.

“It does.” Jun returned the small smile Hikari gave him. Sudden it occurred to him, why did he have to voice anything? He was an action man anyways. His smile turned into a grin. “Hey! Can we split now?”

The bluette looked around, hearing the party getting more lively. “Of course.” Jun smiled and quickly put on his Airaman mask on. He grabbed the empty plastics and got out of the table. A male he recognized as Denzi gave him a very odd scowl, Jun just bowed his head and tossed the plastics to the trash.

Jun noticed his female friend crawling out of the table and placed his hand out for her to hold. Bringing her up like a real princess, he gripped her hand tighter and made his way towards the exit. Hikari didn’t mind being dragged away swiftly, she never liked being stared at. And who wouldn’t stare at Airaman stealing away a princess.

Hell, Hikari was positive someone had taken a picture of them when their backs were turned. Jun never let go of her hand, or never let his pace slow down. Normally this would have annoyed her, but for now she enjoyed running with him. Regardless of how ridiculous their outfit were, she never a night quite like this in such a long time. It was like a sleepover she had with Jun the first couple times they started doing them.

Stayed up all night talking, laughing at pointless things. Sneak out the window and run to the lake nearby their town. Or take a sneak peek at the forest Pokémons singing their night song. Yes, she enjoyed her time with her Pokémons, but she missed spending time with her childhood friend more.

It didn’t that very long for the two reach the entrance of the forest. Jun turned around and let go of her hand. She couldn’t see his face but his body language started that he was grinning. He raised up his right arm and then brought down bend over his torso. He bowed to her and let his left leg twist around the other. “Please await for me here, Dear Princess of Light, as I climb this hundred pounds piece of tall wood.”

Hikari giggled, and bowed right back. “I will… Aira… ahem, man.” Jun laughed and began to climb the tree she was under. Once he was on the branch he sat down, his legs in on one side. With a deep inhale, he let his torso go limp, falling off the branch but being caught by his locking knees. This never fails to earn a gasp of fright from the female. “What now Airaman?”

Jun snickered and motioned for her to get closer. Once she was in reach he began to untie her eyewear, letting it drop down. Hikari was watching his hands twirl a lock of her hair, whatever silly energetic aura that surrounded them completely took a 180 degrees flip. This was serious, this was calm, this felt right.

Why was that? Hikari turned her gaze to the now mask free blond. He had a goofy smile that was mixed with embarrassment and nervousness. He always gave her this smile whenever he felt awkward. Or about to do something he wasn’t sure would work. He never liked going in blind or without a plan. She could tell his actions since leaving the party has been out of pure impulsivity.

His hands went on her shoulders and pulled her even closer, Hikari knew what was coming next but didn’t stop the blond from placing his lips on hers. It wasn’t awkward, the thought of pulling away never entered her mind. It was comfortable, a bit odd since he was upside down. But she’s never been kiss so she had nothing to compare it too. Never until now that is.

It was Jun who pulled away, or rather, swing away. He had that sheepish smile again only with a faint blush on his face. “I always wanted to do that.” He glanced at his outfit and laughed out some of his butterflies. “I was wearing the costume so I figured, why not.”

Excuses. Hikari smiled a bit deviously at him and got closer. He could feel her breath patting his face. He was positive she could feel his against her forehead. “I uh.. Couldn’t help but… see things differently. Oh well.. Uh.. After I thought you died… wait let me just… ahem.” His babbling only worsen when he heard her giggle at him.

“Jun?”

“Yeah?”

Hikari poked his nose. “Hush.” Her lips were then on his once again.
