The beginning of an era. How do you now when it starts? When it’s here? How do you know your role in it all? How do you know, when the start of something new, evolves into the light and the ending of something sacred, slumbers back into the darkness…?

… you don’t.

Footsteps, soft clacking. Raven shoes walked down the dim lighted hallway and soon down stoned steps. The ceiling sloping downwards blocked the black tie dressed man’s vision from seeing ahead. Once he’s reached the bottom, he took his time to look around the room. The basement, a laboratory.

Human beings in white long coats, many of them, and many men wearing black uniforms, all having a flashy ‘Aru’ displayed. Those who noticed the man who had begun to walk again, bowed in respect and fright. The man only nodded and made his way to the back, passing by all kinds of creatures on tables. All kinds of chemicals and machines.

“Rikiya.” The black suited man spoke. A stern expression only made his dark grey eyes seem more violent. Compared to the other people around, it was clear this man was not genuinely Japanese. The being he called out to was an elderly bald man, wearing a red tie, indigo loose pants with a black shirt tucked in. his most noticeable feature would be his white spiked mustache that covered his lips and his dotted glasses that blocked his eyes. “Operation: Purity… is it ready?”

The elderly nodded, grabbing a chart from the table nearby. “Yes, I’ve already launched the scout team to find the Pure Essence.” He responded, weary and fatigue clear in his voice. With a short nod of approval, the suited man attempted to turn back and leave. Having seemed under control here anyways. The elderly spoke up, lifting his head from the chart. “Ah, Sakaki?”

The suited man stopped in his step and turned back slightly. Obviously annoyed with the first name basis. “Congrats on making it this far.” A small chuckle came from the Eldery, Rikiya. “How many years does today make?”

For a handful of seconds, the suited man, Sakaki, seemed lost to what the head scientist  was referring to. The smile turn on the man mustache made it clear the elderly was smiling. “Oh…” He huffed right afterward. “I don’t keep track of people’s date of births, and that includes my own.”

“Well, that’s sad.” Rikiya playfully replied. Something blurry and muffled came into Sakaki’s mind, yet he couldn’t tell what had just tried to make itself present. Whatever it was disappeared the next second. The man sighed out, brushing off a hand to the elder. “Birthday wishes to you, for whenever that comes.”

Rikiya chuckled, deciding to go back to his work and let the man leave. As Sakaki walked on the same path back to the stairs, he passed by two beings who were watching the conversation with curious looks. One of them was a young teenage female, she sat down on the metal table improperly as the man next to her seemed to be one of the many scientist working here, having his back turned yet his ears out. Rikiya looked at the two, which made the female snap her head in another direction. “Yoshiaki, Yoshiro, break is over.”

The two slumped and sluggishly made their way back to Rikiya. The suited man went up the stairs and back through the dim lighted hallway. He kept going higher in all kinds of stairs he found, passing by various types of people wearing black or lab coats. A noticeable figure was a young female who kept her head low and watched the man walk in a name plated door.

Through the door was officially an office with video screens instead of windows. The floors were a light grey colored tiles, and indigo colored walls. There was a large basic desk with an even taller throne-like chair. There wasn’t much on top of the wood but some papers and pens. Without thinking about it, he grabbed one of the pens and began to write on the papers. Filling out the lines and checking boxes. His right arm rested on top of the wood, but when he moved it to get in a better position, some of the papers opened and revealed a photo.

The writing instantly stopped as the man’s eyes darted to the photo. Clean, neat, a younger version of the suited man, Sakaki, arrogantly smiled as he held an infant child in his arms. The child had short scarlet red hair and a light grayish eye poked out from the chubby face being pressed against the man. It was clear the boy was clutching onto the man’s suit, and the tiny grey creature standing on top of the man’s shoulders seemed more interested in the boy than the camera.

Sakaki’s stern expression faltered as he felt his heart twinge. He sighed and picked up the photo, half bitterly angry and half sorrowful longing. “I wonder… if you’re having difficulties remembering me… your father…” At the thought of his son not being able to remember their short time together pained his heart. Yet it was completely understandable. He was so young at the time, no matter how advanced he was, there was no way for the child to remember him clearly after all these years.

The pencil still in the man’s left grip, snapped as he tighten his fist. “No matter… I will find you.” is soft spoken tone was replaced with a determined one. His teeth gritted at the memories that played in his head. “I will find you. I will fuse our DNA…” Stroking the picture gently, Sakaki moved to place the photo inside breast pocket. “And I will bring karma back to the one who tore us apart…!

Every word was spoken with sheer anger. He didn’t raise his voice, but could easily scream. He wanted too, he’s want nothing more ever since that dreadful day. April third… the day his son was pried away from his arms and lost forever in a blazing fire that could easily represent his hatred and anger. Five years has passed since then, and even so, the man refused to give up in search of his beloved son. “Silver… wait for me..!”

The sounds of birds chirping and bugs crawling on the grass, the peaceful tiny sounds of nature’s working had surrounded the young boy. He felt his heart pang again, which caused him to sluggishly straighten up his back from the crunchy lime colored grass. The boy sighed out, the wind blowing against his neck length scarlet red hair. Bangs all parted one way towards the left, covering his left eye half way.

Light grayish eyes… that sparkled. Silver eyes in other words. His cheeks still had signs of baby meat. yet he was obviously just a bit below his age preference weight. He turned his head to the right, looking down at a pink canine-like creature who sat down watching the river flowing. “Ne, Buru?”

The pink creature with bow-like ears turned it’s head upwards. Making the blue clown collar around his neck to waver. “Ruua?”

The lad took a short breath. “Think girls are okay?”

Buru made a gesture, claiming he didn’t know and don’t want to bother to think on it too much. The boy only sighed out with a pout, slouching his shoulders slightly. He brighten up quickly after and looked to his left side where a grayish colored creature with two sharp claws for hands and feet, and a bright red feather replacing where it’s right ear should be, laid down half asleep. “Nyula, you?”

The small creature said nothing, but tilted it’s head in thought. The boy sighed again, but no longer pouted. His eyes remained on the river flowing downwards, his mind picturing a cyan blue sea horse swimming. He looked up a bit, and towards him as if someone else was there. Faintly, his mind pictured a brunette much taller than him. Smiling at the river, generally just enjoying the breeze with him.

A few seconds later, the softhearted expression of the boy twisted into a sadden one. “I be just… happy with only her.”

The two Pokémon looked up at the redhead. He sighed and bent his legs, using his arms to bring them closer to his chest and let his chin rest on his knees. “I aware I created by… parents… but… I to my knowledge they not family… in the type I am with Blue-neechan…”

The Nyula drooped his ear, even the feather seemed more downcast. Upon noticing this, the redhead yelped lightly in a panic motion. “Ah! B--but I not mind coming across them… attempt to be a genuine family… but…” He sighed out, burying his head into his arms, letting his hair cover any visible skin. His tiny arms trembled, and his fingers dug into his shins. “It don’t feel right… Neechan… feels different…”

The winds blew against his back, causing his featherish to be carried as far as they are long. <That… must be because… Neechan can remember a life that not… this.> Carefully, as if he was afraid someone might strike him, the lad looked up and watched the clouds. Around him were nothing but trees, in front a river, and behind shadows. His only escape was the unreachable sky he could only see and never touch.

“I wonder… what kind of life is that… a normal one.”

The sounds of grass being stepped on could be heard. Once everything fell silent, a lad sighed out with slumped shoulders. “Home sweet home…” The spiky haired brunet stood on top of a hill, looking down at the town below. The grass around him had a faint mantis glow, and the dirt path was yellow with black grinds scattered here and there.

Slumping his shoulder forward to readjust the one strapped bag he carried, the brunet reluctantly made his way down the hill road. In the middle, he passed by an arrow sign that had the words ‘Masara Town’ carved in.

Up ahead, above the town, there was a salmon colored dot just slowly hovering around the are. Even if someone were to notice the blob, no one would be able to tell there as a young lassie lay belly flat on the large balloon-like creature. “You think that’s it?” She asked.

She smiled upon watching the villagers do about their daily lives. “Seems peaceful… my very own hometown..” Her soft smile seemed almost sad. Her attention was quickly grabbed by someone below, getting out of their house.

Another lad, black spiky hair, wearing a red vest and a white plain shirt underneath. After closing the door, he ran out to the dirt path ahead. By the road was a girl with long caramel hair waiting eagerly. “Didn’t think you would wait this time!” The boy laughed.

The brunette only scoffed and ran with him, side by side. “So, is there any trouble that needs to be--”

The red capped lad smiled and quickly interrupted. “Doubled?” He laughed at the scowl the lassie shot him.

The door yanked open, as Sakaki walked out, his stern expression twice as harsh. When he turned to leave his office, his formal jacket fluttered from the swift turn, revealing the giant red ‘R’ on his chest. Aggressively he walked down the hallway, passing by a teenage lassie who halted at the sight of  him.

He paid no mind to the lassie, she however turned around, concerned and surprised. Bending her right leg slightly to turn her torso around downwards, she did this in order to whip ankle length raven hair from her view. She slowly turned her entire body to face where the man turned to leave. In her eyes, there was sadness yet she shook it off and went back on the path she was walking originally.

Up ahead she could see a bulky young man gripping a poor soul by their neck with one scout arm. Obviously, this person was not Japanese, and even spoke in a different language as he yelled at the poor soul. The lassie only sighed irritated and kept along her path.

As she turned a corner, passing the blonde army-themed man, up ahead in his direction was two young lads wearing the same black R get up, only with their own personalized accessory. One of them had a bandanna around their neck and curl up sideburns. “Hey Ken?” He turned to the taller more foreign looking man who also wore a bandanna around his neck.

“What?” He continued to watch his boss strangle one of the grunts.

The smaller young lad handed Ken a clipboard. “This is the orders, I’ll be back in a bit.” He dashed off, passing the blonde and towards the lassie who was close to disappearing around the corner. The black haired man sighed, turning around towards the group of same wearing uniform. “So! Whoever this Koga person is, I order you to head down to the baseme--”

“Hold on!” An older man stomped forward, yanking the chart away. “What gives you the right to order me around? I’m the bosses’ go to grunt, that makes me higher than you!” The older man glared down at the one who goes by Ken. In reply he only aggregately step down and let the man read off the clipboard.

The lad who had dashed off earlier turned the corner only to find it empty. He was confused and took a step back that the long haired female was no longer where she should be. Suddenly he slipped from the puddle of water, one of the assumingly janitors was currently trying to mop up.

Splashing erupted in the lassie’s ears as she let her body be impacted by the lake of water she willingly fell into. Her orange rectangular hair tied up in a high sidetail, as she toplessly wore a mermaid tail. The waters shifted as a long snake-like creature, as blue as the lake, twirled around her. She giggled underwater and began to swim next to the monstrous looking creature.

A shirtless lad sighed and roughly laid his back against the stoned walls. He grunted and looked annoyed at the fighting ring in front of him. A large snake-like creature made out of rocks hovered over a fainted brown star creature with a red gym in the middle. The lad crossed his arms, frowning deeper as he watched another person slowly make their way to the fighting ring. Losing all interest, all the spiky brunet did was flick his wrist, the rock snake began to lunch.

She bowed sharply, practically losing her headband in the process and nervously made her way out. An obvious beauty female with short black hair wearing formal school-like dresses made her hurriedly way out the door. On her way out the building, she passed by a man in a white suit holding a piece of paper as he glared out the window.

“Tch…” Out that very window was a woman in a flow ankle length skirt and tank top walking with a small young boy. The boy had plain shorts and shirt, but the he grabbed other’s attention due to his golden circular eyes. On his shoulder was a purple monkey-like creature with giant eats, very much like the boy’s.

The man in the white suit turned his attention back to the paper that had in bold letters ‘Divorce case 0605’. Bitterly, he tossed the paper and the envelope into the trash can nearby, not caring that it fell over from the impact.

She sweat dropped and dashed over to the trash can to pick it up along with the trash that fell out. The young midnight blue twin tails then smiled once she felt her father’s palm petting her head. She stood up to give him an embrace, just a couple blocks to where they were was a man wearing a white kimono and was bare foot as he reluctantly being evicted from the building just behind that read ‘Yamabuki’s Gym’

In a lushful dark and dimmed forest, there was a magenta colored creature with a tiny horn sticking from his body and large ears. He hissed at the dark purple see through creature with three fingered hands not connected to his hovering body. “Ro!” The pink Pokémon jumped and lurch forward, but his attack was useless as he went straight through the ghost Pokémon.

In return, the ghost Pokémon summoned up a dark orb and threw it had the falling Nidoran.

Right after, quickly a small blonde girl with a ponytail came running between the two. The pink creature growled as it struggled back up, glaring at the Haunter with vicious eyes. A young man came running to move the little girl away, knowing the Pokémon were about to collide once again. As the Nidoran lurched forward, pointing out his tiny horn and pulling back his ears. The ghost dodge, spinning quickly enough to squeeze in a slap to the back as the magenta creature passed him.

The little girl gasp and wriggled free from the man’s grip. She attempted to embrace the magenta creature, but it roughly shook her off and stomped away. All she could do was watch the injured Pokémon get smaller in her view.

Through the countless dark trees, the magenta Pokémon slowed his pace and soften his looks. Around his neck made it clear he was owned by a tamer. A dark collar with the tag of the latter R in red hanging off. The creature gave a solemn look up, towards a building hidden deep and hardly seen through the trees. ‘Tokiwa Gym’

The beginning of an era. How do you now when it starts? When it’s here? How do you know your role in it all? How do you know, when the start of something new, evolves into the light and the ending of something sacred, slumbers back into the darkness…?

Bitterly with tears streaming his eyes, the Pokémon made his way down a dirt path that was yellow with black grindings scattered here and there.

… you don’t.

There's something about your writing here, I like it a lot, dunno if it's just me though but wow this one was lovely <3 the feels, the scenes are like an opening montage, it indeed feels like the start of something, and if you've read pokespe then some tiny hints here and there just give you feels because of the foreshadowing

now lemme

“Ah, Sakaki?”
The suited man stopped in his step and turned back slightly. Obviously annoyed with the first name basis.

This here is important, gotta love how you mention it, the fact that he calls Katsura by his last name but then he comes and woops nope Sakaki, I have to wonder tho if taht was done in purpouse for some reason, and why is Sakaki listed as a Hanamura below?

“I don’t keep track of people’s date of births, and that includes my own.”
“Well, that’s sad.” Rikiya playfully replied.

agreed //shot aahh man -w- sad indded

Something blurry and muffled came into Sakaki’s mind, yet he couldn’t tell what had just tried to make itself present. Whatever it was disappeared the next second. The man sighed out, brushing off a hand to the elder. “Birthday wishes to you, for whenever that comes.”
Wonder what was thaaat~ And that last line was nice, just carelessly like "yeah yeah man you too"
